"isles of Wonder highlights"

okay this post took a while to be done due to bad weather hoho. I was thrilled and so amaze to see some videos of the opening ceremony of  2012 London Olympics held last July 27Th. the whole ceremony was entitled "The Isles of Wonder" and was directed by the great Danny Boyle.they said 27millions viewers watched it.now let me just list some of the high lights of the said event.
•the ceremony started with the traditional Olympic bell ringing  which is done by an Olympics cyclist pioneer Bradley Wiggins

•an epic "rings of fire" slowly joined to form the Olympic rings and showered sparks on the ground.

•a short movie was shown showing James Bond [Daniel Craig] picking Queen Elizabeth II from the Buckingham palace through a helicopter and sky dive to the event[well it was their double of course hoho].

•a lot of Mary Poppins flying with their Umbrellas and also a giant replica of Lord Valdemort were showed at once.

•Mr. Bean [Rowan Atkinson] were also there with an orchestra adding some humor on the event.

•David Beckham was driving a speed boat carrying the Olympic Torch.

•and of course the parade of Athletes was part of the program

•the Queen officially opened the game.

•also another great British retired Olympian Steve Redgrave carrying the Olympic torch passing flame to some young British athletes which lit the a chain of torch on the ground which is soon raised to be the Olympic Cauldron.

•whats an event with out Fireworks? hoho

•and the ceremony ended with Paul McCartney singing "hey Jude"

  2. Sana naman makadale na tayo ng ginto d'yan sa London Olympics. Kung wala pa rin tayong napalunang ginto e di punta na lang tayo sa Recto at dun tayo magpagawa ng medal.

  4. I've watched the "Opening Ceremony" here in the Mid-East live via OSN Channel. Never slept until it finishes. And here's what I observed: "The British creativity and class made for a dramatic yet sincere Olympics Opening Ceremonies. The London organizers, led by director Danny Boyle, didn't give in to the lure of over-extravagance and pomp, but rather opted for a dressed-down yet symbolic approach which is what the Games are all about. To me, the highlights of the opening were the flying human doves, Sir Paul McCartney's "Hey, Jude" sing-along that brought gender equality into the picture, and the seven young athletes who lit the gigantic Olympic cauldron. Congrats, London, you did it!

In my opinion, it didn't surpassed the glitz and glamours, the technicalities and somehow precision performances of the Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony but it's a seal of what UK is all about. Showcasing their culture and tradition.

  5. I have been watching Olympics since Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and now the London 2012. I have been a die hard swimming fan though I also watched other sports discipline.

The elusive gold for us have been achieved already during Atlanta 1996 but we were cheated by the judges when it favored the Bulgarian boxer over Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco. It's so saddening to note that even the highest sporting spectrum is still vulnerable to controversies and inequalities.

    1. Hay naku Juicy Jay, I can not forget that Velasco Olympic robbed! Me and my friends stayed awake watching that match in PH grave hours cheering, not minding if the neighbors will get mad at our noise LOL!

When Onyok lost, we were so frustrated :( we ate a lot and drink beer till morning hmp!

    2. Tama ka Light! Who would forget that wee hours of waiting for Onyok's fight only to be clearly robbed of his deserved "Gold Medal". Kung pwede lang pumunta doon at makipag suntukan ginawa ko na ng time na yon. Galit na galit kami ng tatay ko dahil doon sa insidente ng pandaraya. We both are boxing fanatics too.

Belated Happy Birthday to you Mecoy! Stay blessed and be a blessing to others too. I hope to see you in interesting times. God bless you always.

  7. But I'm equally appeased hearing and reading news that racist athletes are automatically banned and sent home to their countries. At least the Olympics organizers and even the officials of the countries involved are taking positive action to end this racial discrimination.

    2. Welcome! This kind of attitude don't deserve a place in a sporting event where it's primary purpose is to spread camaraderie and humanitarian precept

  8. It was a great opening = very "London" (British). Beckham, Bond and the Queen, Mr. Bean, the cauldron. The best for me was Hey Jude by my ex-boyfriend Paul (lol).

And I really find it humorous is James Bond picking up the Queen from Buckingham and later the Queen is caught on camera picking her nails. epic! :)))

    2. I disagree, hahaha..maybe symbolic-wise and essence-wise it is, but on the platform of technicalitieS, precision performances and synchronization nothing can beat the BEIJING 2008 in my opinion...hehehe..peace

  10. I enjoyed Bond and the Queen jumping out of the helicopter. Wasn't so sure about all the sick kids in bed and the Mary Poppinses. Liked the parade of nations and the cool way they lit the torch. That was worth waiting for.

  11. I watched a little of it, but the part I like best is the Mr Bean one. That's funny! Other that that, I find the opening boring, definitely can't match the grandness of the Beijing Olympics in 2008! That was awesome! Have you watched it?

  16. I just love the Queen. Hindi siya KJ. Really cool. Di katulad ng mga politicians at mga principalia aristocrats natin- MGA FEELING COOL. Mga conyong balat sibuyas, garapalan naman sa kagaguhan. Hay! Eto na naman ako, puro negativities! Sige na, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
